Filipinos : What's wrong with you ?
Filipinos
: What’s wrong with you ?
By EQ
After
you read my article on how great Filipinos at singing and Filipina being model
wives, let me give you some of the negatives of being a Filipino.
We
are so nationalistic in words but not in deeds. Remember that action speaks
louder than words and Filipino patriotism is all by words and thoughts, but you
will not see them in action.
Let’s
take for example the singing of the National Anthem.
A lawmaker filed criminal charges against Martin Nievera over the
singer's rendition of the Philippine national anthem during the Pacquiao-Hatton
fight in Las Vegas. Oh come on, how many of these artists and Filipinos know how the anthem should be sung.
Does it dent your being patriotic Filipino if you sung it unintentionally wrong
? Isn’t it that as long as you sing it from the heart, that’s all that matters
?
Now let’s
take a look at the American National Anthem and how they are sung over the
years ? Does any of the renditions similar in any way, isn’t it that each
artist sung the American anthem using their own style and interpretation ? Does
it make the Americans less patriotic and Filipinos more, I think not ?
Problema Numero Dos
We compete against each other instead of helping other.
No need to go that far to find a typical example of how
Filipino compete against each other. One good example is Sari Sari Store, one
pops up in one area and everyone wants to be on the band wagon doing the
same.
Filipino Businesses doesn’t have a chamber that if one
business is not doing well, the group will chip in to assist the business in
trouble either through business mentoring or finance. Instead, what you will
hear from the other business is “buti nga sayo” ( translation : “good for you” said
in a bad way ).
It’s like, a person dying but instead of consoling, the
other person will start digging a hole to bury the dying person. They will not
use their hands to help you get up, they will use their feet to crumple you to
the ground.
Harsh reality but true. Does not apply to everyone ‘tho but
very common in our society.
Problema
Numero Tres
We cannot accept criticism constructively, always offensively.
If someone at work will criticize you that you are doing your work right, Filipinos normal reaction is take a grudge against that person instead of accepting your our mistake and to look for what is positive on his comment and ask for help on how you can do better.
We always criticize other people, why get mad when
someone criticizes you.
Problema Numero Cuatro
We are proud to be Filipino but we want to be someone
else.
This is the reason why Vicky Belo is now filthy rich, because
Filipinos wants to be someone else. Always remember, we are brown not white,
our nose are flat and not pointed.
Don’t blame our ancestors for you being “pango” and pandak( flat nose and short ) and for
what you are now, thank them instead for giving you an identity.
Stop idolizing and following the steps of our western
colonizers, they are part of our history, our past but we will never become
like them.
Be Filipino, don’t try to become Katy Perry look-alike.
Problema Numero Cinco
Corruption is in our veins.
I don’t fully believe that we got it from our Spanish DNA ( could be ‘tho) but this is more political than genetics which has been going on for decades, president after president and worse, we already tolerated, accepted it and now running in our very own veins.
Corruption have created all sort of problems that the Filipinos are facing now.
1. Drugs – because some government officials are behind the systematic proliferation of illegal substance and some police personalities can be bribed to just close their eyes instead of combatting this menace, then how can we win the fight against it.
2.
Traffic Rules Violators – why follow the rules if the
officers who are supposed to be implementing the law can be bought for $ 20.
3.
Poverty and prostitution – the social and physical wellbeing
of the people was overlooked by the corrupt governmental officials who are prioritizing
the  wellbeing of their pockets than
their poor constituents.
Problema Numero seis.
Religious by birth.
The problem with most Filipinos is that they go to Church, but do not live like Christians. We pray only on times of troubles and hardship, and forget about God when everything is of abundance.
Going to church to most of us is like washing our face and brushing our teeth in the morning when we wake up. It’s a routine, not an act of faith.
Problema numero siete
Plastic - Dead people are always nice people.
“Kawawa naman sya, mabait pa naman yan.” These are just some remarks you hear from people during the wake of families or friends.
Stop being nice as even those who hold grudges to someone pretends to change their perception when that person pass away. I am not asking you not to be nice, just don’t say anything if you really don’t mean it as it could back fire on you in the end.
These are just some of the problems of being a Filipino. Problems that we inherited from our ancestors and absorbed by our system as we become more and more tolerant to things that are outside the norms.
Read more : Do not tolerate intolerance
Some of these problems are not utterly bad and could be remedied with a dose of discipline ‘tho some of the problems are already deeply rooted in our system and accepted by the society that only purging can possibly resolve.
Having said these negative side of being Filipinos ( which some of us will surely contradict and deny ), no one can argue that Filipinos are great people, hardworking and are generally friendly, overwhelmingly welcoming and exceptionally resilient to whatever storm that comes their way.
The problems are not us being Filipinos, but us being our natural selves torn between extreme good and enticing evil.
